06-23 Prosecutors Ask That Ghislaine Maxwell Spend At Least 30 Years in Prison

Ms. Maxwell, who will be sentenced next week, showed an “utter lack of remorse” for helping Jeffrey Epstein recruit and abuse girls, federal prosecutors told a judge

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan, writing that Ghislaine Maxwell had made the choice to conspire with Jeffrey Epstein for years, “working as partners in crime and causing devastating harm to vulnerable victims,” asked a judge on Wednesday night to sentence her to at least 30 years in prison.

Ms. Maxwell, 60, is to be sentenced on Tuesday in Federal District Court in Manhattan. If the judge follows the government’s recommendation, she could spend much of the rest of her life in prison.

Ms. Maxwell was convicted on Dec. 29 on five of the six counts she faced, including sex trafficking, after a monthlong trial in which witnesses testified that she helped Mr. Epstein recruit, groom and abuse underage girls.

06-22 At Least 135 Teachers, Aides Charged with Child Sex Crimes this Year Alone

At least 135 teachers and teachers’ aides have been arrested so far this year on child sex-related crimes in the U.S., ranging from child pornography to raping students.

An analysis conducted by Fox News Digital looked at local news stories week by week featuring arrests of teachers and teachers’ aides on child sex-related crimes in school districts across the country. Arrests that weren’t publicized were not counted in the analysis, meaning the true number may well be higher.

The analysis found that at least 135 teachers and teachers’ aides have been arrested in 41 states between January 1 and May 13, which works out to about an arrest a day on average.

The vast majority of the arrested educators were men.

06-21 DANGER! A Bill to Repeal California’s Anti-Loitering Law Divided Sex Workers and Advocates. It’s now up to Gov. Newsom

A controversial bill to repeal a provision of California law that prohibits loitering with the intent to sell sex is on its way to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk, nine months after it passed the Legislature and deeply divided Democrats, sex workers and trafficking survivors along the way.

Senate Bill 357 would rescind the misdemeanor law against loitering in public for the purpose of engaging in prostitution. Advocates for the measure argued that law enforcement uses California’s loitering rules to disproportionately target Black, brown and transgender Californians, and that the practice leads to unsafe conditions for workers. They also contend that loitering arrests make it difficult for people to find housing and jobs due to criminal records, and that police use subjective criteria when pursuing an arrest, such as the type of clothing or makeup a person wears.

Opponents said SB 357 would remove a crucial tool to stop sex trafficking, especially of children, and would hamstring victim outreach efforts.

06-19 Disney World Employee Among 12 Arrested in Undercover Child Sex Predator Sting

A Walt Disney World employee is among a group of 12 people arrested by Florida law enforcement agencies as a result of an undercover operation focused on the online solicitation of minors.

“Operation Child Predator II” began on June 2 and was conducted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Auburndale Police Department, and Winter Haven Police Department. During the two-week operation, detectives posed as children on various social media platforms, mobile apps, and online dating sites “to investigate those who prey upon and travel to meet children for unlawful sexual activity.”

The individuals arrested range in age from 20-years-old to 67-years-old, and a total of 12 people face a total of 49 felony charges. Four suspects allegedly showed up to an undercover location multiple times in Polk County to meet with whom they believed to be children “to sexually batter them.”

One of the individuals arrested is Zachary Hudson, 30, who told police that he’s a bus driver at Walt Disney World. Officials allege that Hudson engaged in sexual conversations with the undercover detective while he was on the clock at Walt Disney World.

06-17 Meta Introduces New Parent Controls For Instagram & VR – But Things Are Still Scary Online

If you’re the parent of a teen, or a kid who will soon be one, you’ve likely spent some time freaking out about their social media usage. Parents have been on high alert since last fall, when a Wall Street Journal exposé, then whistleblower Frances Haugen, blew the lid on how much Facebook (now Meta) knew when it came to how bad Instagram is for teens, especially girls.

Having to toe the impossible line of allowing our kids a healthy amount of socialization with peers while keeping them safe from algorithms that have been shown to exacerbate eating disorders and thoughts of suicide, parents are desperate for any help with damage control in the social media universe.

06-16 Westchester News12 #TurnToTara The Pandemic Drove Most of Our Children to Spend More time Online.

The harsh reality is that it also drew more predators.

When the pandemic hit, social media became an important outlet for our children to stay connected with friends and doting grandparents. But more screen time, means more risk, with cyberbullying, phishing attacks and stranger danger lurking almost everywhere online. Westchester District Attorney Mimi Rocah, a mother of two, along with her internet safety coordinator, Laura Forbes, recently invited the Turn to Tara team to their offices to sound the alarm about social media dangers.
How to best protect your children? Below are 10 things to do right now:
1. Make sure your children avoid using their full name for their handle.
2. Vet their entire friend list, and remind them to never accept requests from strangers.
3. Set up the security questions and double check they’ve created strong passwords using special characters. That makes it harder for hackers to crack.

06-15 Warrior Wednesday WVOX Radio is Here! Dr. John Foubert Joins Us to Discuss His Newest Book Protecting Your Children from Internet Pornography

There is a war on for our children. It is time for a national conversation about the realities and harms caused to our children from the escalation, and easy access, of pornography on the Internet. Protecting Your Children from Internet Pornography exposes the many ways that pornography is menacing people, relationships, society, and—especially—our children. Dr. John Foubert’s ability to write about complex concepts in practical terms will help you understand issues like how pornography affects the brain, how pornography is a recipe for sexual violence, and why you should take measures to protect your children and those you love. This scholarly perspective is well balanced by practical suggestions at the end of each chapter that gives parents advice on how to apply the information in their own home. It is time for a national conversation about what pornography is really all about. Foubert’s book opens the door on that discussion and invites the reader to join the battle against porn with greater knowledge of its actual effects. You will be disturbed, shocked, motivated, and empowered to make a difference after reading this book.
