05-09 Oklahoma Governor Defunds State PBS Station, Citing ‘Over-Sexualization of Our Children’

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt is defending his decision to cut funding for the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA), pointing to the “problematic” sexual content broadcasted that targeted children.

Last week, Stitt, a Republican, vetoed a bill that sought to extend funding for OETA—the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) member station for Oklahoma—through 2026.

“OETA, to us, is an outdated system. You know, the big, big question is why are we spending taxpayer dollars to prop up or compete with the private sector and run television stations?” Stitt said in an interview with Fox News. “And then when you go through all of the programming that’s happening and the indoctrination and over-sexualization of our children, it’s just really problematic, and it doesn’t line up with Oklahoma values.”

05-08 WARNING: Prepping for Kids & AI: Once-Cool Facebook May Have 3 Billion Users, But Many of Them are Old

Facebook says it is not dead. Facebook also wants you to know that it is not just for “old people,” as young people have been saying for years.

Now, with the biggest thorn in its side — TikTok — facing heightened government scrutiny amid growing tensions between the U.S. and China, Facebook could, perhaps, position itself as a viable, domestic-bred alternative. 05-07 Brenda Myers-Powell, Advocate for Stopping Sex Trafficking Calls DCFS Gruesome

Brenda Myers-Powell was outraged to learn DCFS approved sending a teenage sex trafficking victim to live with a man whom court records describe as a habitual criminal. The foster dad was arrested again and charged with promoting prostitution.

Why does the system send girls to live with pimps and traffickers? This must stop. Hold those who facilitate this accountable now.

05-04 Court Tosses Lawsuit Accusing Twitter of Profiting from Sex Trafficking

U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph Spero ruled that Section 230 shielded Twitter from the families’ claims of participating in child pornography and sex trafficking but allowed them to sue the company for allegedly profiting from the traffickers’ illegal conduct.

A federal appeals court on Wednesday dismissed a suit accusing Twitter of profiting from sex trafficking by allowing a paying customer to post nude photos of two 13-year-old boys. The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals relied on a 1996 federal law that shields tech platforms from liability for content posted by others, a law now under review in the Supreme Court.

04-30 Decriminalizing Sex Work in New York Would Be a Bigger Disaster than Legal Weed

Op-Ed

There’s a bill brewing in Albany that would decriminalize sex work between consenting adults. What could go wrong?

Bill key sponsor Assemblywoman Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas (D-Queens) stressed to Channel 11 News that the bill would simply decriminalize sex work, not make it legal.

“It includes both the sex worker, the person who is selling their body, and someone who is purchasing the sex, so it takes away criminal penalties, it prevents raids from happening, it ensures that sex workers are safer,” she said.

Sure it does.

Remember what happened when New York City “decriminalized” marijuana? The stink of weed was suddenly everywhere. “Decriminalizing” something and making it “legal” is the definition of a distinction without a difference. And remember, decriminalizing possession of marijuana was just another step on the road to complete legalization of weed for recreational use by adults. I’d be willing to bet that sex work will follow that same path if Albany lawmakers are actually craven enough to decriminalize it. These things happen incrementally. And what has legal weed brought us? Not a legal and regulated system of clean and well-lighted dispensaries where we can buy our joints and gummies. No. We’ve instead seen an explosion of illegal weed shops, a world where weed is being sold in delis and other storefronts. Legalized weed has been a boon to the black marketeers and drug cartels, and not a tax revenue windfall for the state, as was promised.
