12-09 Indiana Sues TikTok Over Child Safety Violations and Brands It ‘Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’ for Not Disclosing that the Chinese Government Can Tap Sensitive Consumer Data

The state of Indiana sued Chinese-owned short-video sharing app TikTok on Wednesday over allegations that it is deceiving users about China‘s access to their data and exposing children to mature content.

The office of Indiana Attorney General, Todd Rokita, a Republican, said the popular app, owned by ByteDance, violates the state’s consumer protection laws by not disclosing the Chinese government’s potential to access sensitive consumer information.

TikTok also deceived young users and their parents with its age rating of 12-plus in Apple’s and Google‘s app stores, Rokita’s office said in a complaint filed on Wednesday.

12-08 Great Op-Ed from Our Good Friend, Expert Susan Linn – What Not to get Your Kid This Holiday Season

The children were on the floor, surrounded by the kinds of bestselling toys marketers today promote as “interactive” because they move and emit sounds at the push of a button.

12-01 WARNING! PARENTS BEWARE! Sextortion Schemes Targeting Teen Boys on the Rise

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is warning parents about a dramatic increase in sextortion cases being reported.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is warning parents about a dramatic increase in sextortion cases being reported.

Walsh said that sextortion is when a predator, usually an adult, somehow gets a sexually explicit image of a child. Walsh said there’s been a roughly 150 percent increase in these cases over just the past few years, noting that the uptick started during the pandemic as many children increased the amount of time they spent online.
