Senator Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, promised this past week that his committee will mark up the Kids Online Safety Act S. 1748, and that KOSA would pass and be signed into law this year. This is huge news, as KOSA has overwhelming support in the Senate, but Cruz’s committee has delayed marking it up, which is the necessary next step for the bill to move to the Senate floor for a vote.
- In addition to passing KOSA in his committee, Cruz promised to work hand-in-hand with leadership in the US House to get the bill passed there. Plus he said that President Trump would sign KOSA into law.
- Cruz’s full quote: “We passed KOSA in the last Congress out of the Senate, we’re going to pass it out of the Commerce Committee, we’re going to pass it in the Senate [again], and we are going to work hand-in-hand [with House leadership] to get it passed through the House and get it put on the President’s desk and get it signed into law this year.”
