Lynn’s Warriors Statement: May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Lynn’s Warriors recognizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month and stands with families, survivors and children whose emotional well being has been impacted by online harm, exploitation, and the growing pressures of a digital world that too often moves faster than safeguards.
Mental health is not an abstract issue for our community, it is the lived reality of young people navigating anxiety, isolation, trauma and confusion in environments that were never designed with their safety in mind. From harmful content and predatory behavior to the rise of AI driven chatbot companions that blur emotional boundaries, the risks to children’s mental health are real and escalating.
“This month is a reminder that mental health and online safety are deeply connected,” said Lynn Shaw, Founder and Executive Director of Lynn’s Warriors. “We cannot talk about protecting children without addressing the emotional and psychological toll these platforms are taking. Families are seeing the impact every day, and they deserve real solutions, real accountability, and real support.” Lynn’s Warriorsis calling on community families to take action by prioritizing open conversations, setting clear digital boundaries, and advocating for stronger protections that put children’s well being first. Reach out, check in and remind the young people in your lives that they are not alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Mental health matters, and protecting it must be part of every conversation about keeping children safe. Warriorsstand together to ensure that awareness leads to action, and that no child is left to face these challenges alone.
