Lynn’s Warriors Statement on Marijuana Reclassification and Child Safety
Lynn’s Warriors strongly opposes the reclassification of marijuana without clear protections for children. Today’s cannabis is not the substance of the past. THC levels are dramatically higher and the risks to developing brains are well documented. Increased access and normalization have led to more youth exposure, higher rates of anxiety and psychosis, rising emergency room visits and long term cognitive harm.
Reclassification sends a dangerous message to kids that marijuana is safe when science says otherwise. The adolescent brain continues developing into the mid twenties, and regular THC exposure interferes with memory, judgment, emotional regulation and mental health. Edibles and vapes make this risk even greater by delivering high doses in deceptive forms. Public policy must prioritize children over industry profits. Legal changes that expand access without strong safeguards fail families and leave parents to manage the fallout alone.
Lynn’s Warriors calls for honest education, strict age enforcement, child safe packaging, limits on potency and community accountability before any further normalization.
Protecting children is not political. It is a responsibility.
