A new version of ChatGPT tailored specifically for teenagers is being launched by OpenAI. Aimed at the first generation raised alongside artificial intelligence, the tool responds to young people already utilizing the technology for academic work, everyday advice, and digital companionship.
Releasing on Tuesday, ChatGPT for Teens is crafted for users aged 13 to 17 and features heightened safety controls from the San Francisco firm. These boundaries block content linked to self-harm, suicide, and romantic or sexual interactions. The service also includes academic features aimed at helping students comprehend their schoolwork rather than simply generating finished essays or answers.
OpenAI stated that the goal is to cultivate healthy habits with artificial intelligence within an age-appropriate framework.
“We want to treat teens like teens, which means that we have to make sure that we’re showing up with the right developmental stage when we’re not either talking down to them or treating them like kids, but we’re also making sure that they’re not exposed to material that they shouldn’t be exposed to,” said Ann O’Leary, vice president of global policy at OpenAI.
