March 12, 2026 Lynn’s Warriors Statement on Meta Pushing Kids on WhatsApp
It is deeply troubling that even while Meta is facing trials in multiple states over allegations that its platforms have harmed and exploited young users, the company continues expanding efforts to draw even younger children into its ecosystem. Families across the country are asking a simple question: why are companies under scrutiny for the impact their products have on children now working to bring even more children onto those same platforms? The evidence presented in these cases has raised serious concerns about whether the design of these platforms prioritizes engagement over the well-being of young users. Parents and advocates have long warned that systems built around constant notifications, validation loops and endless scrolling can have powerful effects on developing minds. Meta now claims that new parental tools will address these concerns. But many families remain skeptical.
The technology industry has repeatedly promised stronger safeguards only to deliver limited protections while continuing to expand youth engagement. Encouraging younger children to rely on messaging platforms like WhatsApp risks normalizing digital dependency at earlier and earlier ages. Parents should not be forced to navigate an online environment where children are treated as the next growth market.
Children deserve thoughtful protections, not product expansion strategies. At Lynn’s Warriors we believe the focus must remain where it belongs: protecting the health, safety and dignity of children rather than maximizing engagement and profits from the youngest users.
