Officials announced a significant update in a massive human trafficking sting called “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild,” an initiative that mobilized over 80 law enforcement agencies at all levels from across California.
L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna spoke Tuesday morning at a press conference announcing the results of what authorities described in a press release as “an extensive weeklong statewide crackdown on human trafficking.”
At the press conference, firearms and other items that were seized during the annual sting operation were displayed. L.A. County District Attorney’s Office officials said that, in the city of L.A. itself, the operation focused on three areas: the Figueroa Street Corridor in South Los Angeles, the Western Avenue Corridor in Koreatown and the Sepulveda Corridor in the San Fernando Valley.
In the Figueroa Corridor alone, dozens of arrests were made, according to Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton. Several young girls were rescued, the youngest being just 13 years old.
